Ive had it since the early nineties. Since then John installed his upgraded preamp and had new pickups installed last year. My teacher Herb Mickman told me that he's heard just about every EUB out there and that the Carruthers SUB-1 bass sounds the closest to an actual double bass. Carlo Tanori |

Mackenzie Sent: Tuesday, October 03, 2006 1:37 PM Subject: feedback on new guitar hey john and rick having had a chance to thoroughly check out the new acoustic/electric you made for me, I wanted to give a little unsolicited feedback... the guitar certainly looks and feels stunning - like a dream come true! however, I have encountered three problems I'd like to address: 1) I am not getting ANY work done and may possibly start losing income if I continue to be distracted by the irresistible playability of this guitar. I am seriously worried I won't be able to make rent in the coming months! 2) I haven't touched any of my other boutique and vintage guitars since I picked up the Carruthers. I spent a great deal of money on those guitars and it's just not cool that they are being totally neglected. thanks for nothing! 3) since the guitar really comes into its own when generously amplified (without a trace of feedback), I have been operating it at considerable volumes of amplification. as you can guess, the neighbors are not happy about this, and this poses a further threat to my future in this apartment. since I have no legal claim against you, all I can do is appeal to your sense of decency as human beings and urge to to issue some sort of official warning or disclaimer with this guitar, so that the hapless musician who decides to purchase one knows exactly what he or she is getting into. it's the right thing to do. sincerely, Dan Mackenzie |

Phillips Sent: Saturday, August 12, 2006 2:50 PM Subject: Thank You Hi John, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for 15 years of top notch service and for building the 2 best guitars I have ever played in 25 years of experience. I started coming to you in 1991 when I used to tour a lot both nationally and internationally in various indie/punk bands- since then, you have kept my guitars in tune and set up perfectly and expertly modified. It has always been a pleasure to visit your shop and see the beautiful instruments you make there. Its nice to know that when I walk in to your state of the art facility you have the equipment, staff and 30 years of experience to handle any guitar repair or modification that is humanly possible- I've even seen you do the impossible a few times. You clearly take a lot of pride in your shop and in your work and so does your staff. Although I do play gigs on the road every now and then with Trulio Disgracias and others, in recent years my focus has shifted from playing live to composing music for television shows. At this point, I have a steady stream of work through David Vanacore Productions for whom I have written music for over 40 TV shows. The only guitars I will play for either studio work or the road are the ones you made for me. In doing music for a television show, I need to know that when I pick up a guitar to lay down a track, it is going to play well all over the neck, and to be versatile to handle anything from the ethnic music I do for Survivor to the clean urban funk for the Apprentice to the balls to the wall rock sound for The Contender. When I do get out and play live (especially with Trulio Disgracias) I need a guitar that is as durable as it is versatile. My S6 and ACS have proven to be up to the task. The ACS is fantastic, I often find that once I pick it up I have a hard time putting it down. Often I find myself dragging it around from room to room of my house on my days off. The tone possibilities with this guitar are limitless, great vintage strat sound (especially through the Pod) and amazing warm, clear acoustic tone (directly through my Avalon preamp) and recently for an episode of The Amazing Race, I even knocked the treble down a little to fake a nylon string tone. My S6 is the best solid body electric guitar I have ever played, end of story. You customized it to have everything I could ever want so it is perfect for my needs. I don't think between my ACS or my S6 that either have been more than a 1/4 step out of tune since I picked them up (including a 2 week vacation!) Having these guitars makes it a pleasure to get up and go to work every day. It is a different experience than playing any ordinary guitar. I know, how much attention to detail you put into my instruments because I dropped in a few times and got to see you sanding the neck by hand and putting spraying the first coat of the beautiful sunburst you did for me. There is no way Fender, Gibson, Paul Reed Smith or any other competitor could hold a candle to the level of care I saw you put into my guitars. Unfortunately, none of the other guitars in my arsenal- including a Gibson Les Paul Gold top, Yamaha acoustic, ESP Viper and 62 Strat (reissue) are getting played these days so I have had to consult with my accountant as to whether I should donate them to charity or sell them! These days, the demand for guitar oriented music of all genres in television shows is at an all time high so I plan to get a lot more use from my Carruther's guitars and to buy a few more. I'll see you again soon when I'm ready to order my next one. Mark R. Phillips www.markphillipsmusic.net |

Goldman Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2006 5:14 PM Subject: FW: photos from Guitar Town Hey Rick: Check out the link below. These are photos my friend took at Guitar Town 2006 in Copper Mtn, CO. It was a great gig. Artists included yours truly, Laurence Juber, Tommy Emmanuel, Tim Reynolds, John Jorgensen, Sonny Landreth, Joe Bonnamassa and Joe Satriani. The Carruthers acoustic-electric 12-string was an incredible solution for me. Wonderfully playable (the usual outstanding Carruthers neck!) with a great variety of sounds available through pick-up combinations. Onstage it presents no feedback worries. I ran it through a Schertler amp and it sounded great! Let me know what you think of the photos. Thanks again, Scott |

I will be with Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and Gregg Allman in a couple of weeks. If the opportunity presents itself I will hand them the CSA. ----- Original Message ----- From: John Carruthers To: Tom Carrin Sent: Friday, May 26, 2006 12:45 PM Subject: RE: From Tom Carrin May I use this as one of my webquotes? It is hilarious albeit functional. -----Original Message----- From: Tom Carrin Sent: Friday, May 26, 2006 10:53 AM To: John Carruthers Subject: Re: From Tom Carrin Hey Rick: How unusual that you should catch me at the odd moment when I do not have my new guitar in my hands. It is such a piece of jewelry albeit functional jewelry. Yeah, the message was a reply from your comment about shipping cost. Again, the guitar is wonderful. Looks great, feels great, sounds amazing through every amp I plug it into. [xxxxxxx] just got an endorsement from PRS. He played my CSA and now he spits on other guitars. I had to pry it out of his hands to get it back into the case. Thanks for your help getting it here. Regards to John. More later... Tom From: tom carrin |
